Interviewing the Panel

The filming set was just like when Misty had interviewed Heliok, with the exception that this one contained three Fates instead of just one.

Across from her sat Kilodiek, Mooli, and Lornkoo. Kilodiek was seated in the middle. He looked comfortable enough with the situation, but Lornkoo was clearly terrified. Mooli was hard to read. If Misty had to guess, though, she would have said Mooli was amused or confused, or maybe both.

Corg was busily pacing back and forth, checking the lights, adjusting everyone’s chairs, moving the table around, and just generally yelling at anyone and everyone.

“Have ye got the cameras set, ye rangy Fate?” he hollered at Aniok.

“Ready to roll, boss.”

Aniok had obviously gotten used to the name-calling style of management that Corg employed. It was rarely done with malice, which was probably why, but that still didn’t make it right. To be fair, Misty didn’t care as long as the names weren’t directed at her.

“All right, lass,” Corg said, pointing at Misty, “yer on!”

Misty was well prepared for her opening sequence, but she gave a dramatic pause, tilting her head precisely as she’d learned during her days in news-anchor training.

“Hello again,” she said smoothly. “As you may recall in our last interview with the Fates, we spoke to Heliok. He was the one who created The Twelve so they could create all of the races living in the land of Ononokin.”

She paused as Corg held up three fingers, then two, then one, and then pointed at her. This signal meant the cameras were pulling away slightly and rotating.

“Tonight we're going to speak with two of Heliok's subordinates, as well as the Fate who serves as the executive producer on many worlds, including ours.” She turned to camera 2 and gave her most confident look. “I'm Misty Trealo, and this is Unreal Makeovers - Gift of the Fates.”

“Cut!” Corg nodded at Misty. “Good.” He then turned around to Aniok and said, “Now get me full panned-out lighting, but do it slowly, ye worthless pissant!” Corg was studying a small screen near his director’s chair. “There, that's good. Smooth the cameras. Keep it controlled. Annnnnnnd... Go!”

“First,” Misty said, “I'd like to introduce you to the Fate named Lornkoo.”

“Hello,” said Lornkoo with a gulp.

“Can you tell us what your role is here in the land of the Fates?”

“I do many things,” he said, wiping the sweat from his forehead. “Some would argue that my job is one of the more important ones here.”

“No, only you would argue that,” scoffed Mooli.

“Quiet, Mooli. This is my turn to speak.” He turned back, seeming to have gained a little resolve due to Mooli’s attack. “Now, where was I? Oh yes, my job duties. Well, I handle setting up conference calls when needed, I get everyone's coffee, tea, or bubbly drink during standard hours, and spirits after hours…”

“Spirits?” interrupted Misty. “You mean like those wispy things that—”

“No, the alcohol kind.”

“Oh, yes, right.”

“But my biggest job seems to be getting yelled at by Heliok,” Lornkoo finished.
